Library Presentation on “Student Adoption of Generative AI and the Evolution of Library Discovery”
How are Harvard students using Generative AI tools? How should they be using them? A team from Harvard Library conducted a study on how generative AI tools impact students’ research habits and information-seeking behavior. Through surveys and interviews the team gathered insights on how Harvard students have been navigating the intersection of AI chatbots and academic integrity. Amy Deschenes, Harvard Library’s Head of UX and Digital Accessibility, will present the student results and share insights from students about how they’re adopting generative AI tools for academic work as well as considerations they’re making about how these tools are impacting their learning. The discussion will highlight both the opportunities and challenges students face when incorporating AI into their research workflow, including issues of accuracy and bias. The presentation will conclude with information about how the library is using this research to inform the development of Collections Explorer, a new AI-driven search tool. Collections Explorer uses generative AI and semantic search technologies to make discovery of trustworthy information easier than ever before. Open to Harvard University community.
